Así que la gran pregunta es...¿qué habría hecho Freddie de Adam Lambert? Creo que le habría gustado el rostro fresco del chico. Él tiene hermosos looks, los aretes, los tatuajes, el traje de cuero negro tachonado, la confianza del camp, el ego arrogante - y la voz es bastante buena también! Brian presenta a la mamá de Freddie como invitada especial al show antes de interpretar Love of My Life. Wow eso fue tan emotivo. Atmósfera eléctrica.

De acuerdo, él parece como un nieto visitando a los viejos amigos, pero como complemento en lugar de competir con el fuego y la pasión de los dos gigantes del rock de pelo blanco, se alza en lo alto y orgulloso. Este es un tipo que está viviendo el sueño. Catapultado a la fama con la realeza del rock y disfrutando claramente cada acorde aplastando oído del mismo.

Él no es Freddie por supuesto, y él no hace ninguna pretensión de ser el heredero del gran hombre, prefiriendo pagar tributo respetuoso a su memoria llevando una celebración de su música. Y tenía que ser especialmente bueno ya que la mamá de Freddie estaba en la casa y, en señas de Brian May, hizo una reverencia a un caluroso aplauso y mil bombillas de flash

Adam es el descubrimiento de América elegido para reemplazar a Paul Rodgers, primer suplente de gira de Freddie. Rodgers es uno de los grandes cantantes de rock, pero Lambert es, sin duda, un mejor ajuste para el personaje requerido para el teatro y espectáculo de Queen. Él tiene que pavonear sus cosas junto a May y Roger Taylor y brillar frente al espectáculo de luz más fantástica que he visto.

Los lásers perforaron el aire, una pantalla gigante en forma de Q proyectó a 50 metros de altura las imágenes de los chicos en acción, un círculo de vigas descendió sobre el escenario mientras Roger Taylor se elevaba en lo alto. Esto fue más que espectacular.

Los éxitos se fueron extendiendo, uno tras otro, en un set list transparente e inmediatamente reconocible. Lo más destacado para mí fueron la apertura One Vision, que simplemente me dejó sin aliento, Love Of My Life con Freddie en la pantalla uniéndose al acto, y él fue traído de vuelta otra vez para compartir Bohemian Rhapsody con su joven devoto.

El encore trajo a la multitud a su punto culminante. We Will Rock You y We Are The Champions ... ¿qué más podría haber sido?

Queen son mucho más veteranos en el escenario ahora, pero con el excepcional Adam Lambert manteniéndolos jóvenes, ellos todavía tienen una especie de magia.

SO, the big question is ... what would Freddie have made of Adam Lambert? I reckon he would have liked the fresh-faced kid. He’s got the beautiful looks, the ear-rings, the tatts, the studded black leather gear, the camp confidence, the swaggering ego – and the voice is pretty good too! 0kay, he looks like a grandson visiting the old folks but, complementing rather than competing with the fire and passion of those two white-haired rock giants, he stands tall and proud. Here is a guy who is living the dream. Catapulted into the spotlight with rock royalty and clearly relishing every ear-crushing chord of it.

He isn’t Freddie of course, and nor does he make any claim to be the great man’s heir, preferring to pay respectful tribute to his memory by leading a celebration of his music. And he had to be especially good as Freddie’s mum was in the house and, at Brian May’s beckoning, took a bow to rapturous applause and a thousand flash bulbs. Adam is the American discovery chosen to replace Paul Rodgers, Freddie’s first touring substitute. Rodgers is one of the great rock singers, but Lambert is undoubtedly a better fit for the theatre and showmanship Queen’s persona demands. He has to strut his stuff alongside May and Roger Taylor and shine in front of the most fantastic light show I have ever seen. Lasers pierced the air, a huge screen in the shape of a Q projected 50 feet high images of the guys in action, a circle of beams descended over the stage as Roger Taylor was raised on high. It was beyond spectacular. The hits rolled out, one after the other, in a seamless and instantly recognisable set list. Highlights for me were the opening One Vision which simply took my breath away, Love Of My Life with on-screen Freddie joining the act, and he was brought back again to share Bohemian Rhapsody with his young devotee. The encore brought the crowd to fever pitch. We Will Rock You and We Are The Champions ... what else could it have been? Queen are very much at the veteran stage now, but with the outstanding Adam Lambert to keep them young, they still have a kind of magic.
